Spring “Green” Cleaning

Yeah, it’s the first day of spring!  I usually celebrate by taking the day off of work and doing something fun outside, but not today. I’ve decided to do some Spring “Green” Cleaning. I don’t like clutter, so my hubby would tell you that I spring clean all year around.

On my list today are my magazines. I save them like prize possessions, but they’re just taking up unneeded space. Sure, I used to take them to work and leave them in the lunch room so others could enjoy, but I didn’t know what would happen to them after that. I decided to do some research and found Earth911. It’s great, you just type in the item you need to recycle and Earth911 will tell you where to recycle it nearest your home. Not only did I find out where to take my old magazines, but I learned where to take the old paint cans and brushes that we no longer needed.

The other area I struggle with are Little Pumpkin Doodles baby items. I finally decided to get rid of her travel system, bouncer, and baby car seat, but I didn’t know where to take them and found the following three solutions:

Earth911 has a mail in program for baby goods called BabyEarthrenew. The products are disassembled and all usable parts are sent to accredited recycling centers. For example, fabrics will be shipped to developing countries, and metal, plastic and foam will be used for construction projects.

If you need a new car seat, high chair, stroller and have one to recycle.  Try your local  BABIES R US, they have a sale once a year where you bring any crib, high chair, stroller, play yard etc. and not only do they recycle it, but they give you 25% off the purchase of a new item.

Lastly, if  you want to recycle and make some dough at the same time.  How about selling your baby goods to a children’s resale store. They will take most gently used items in good condition, except for car seats. I’ve used Once Upon a Child, but there are more chilren’s resale stores popping up daily.  It’s a little cumbersome if you have a lot of stuff to sell.  The key is to arrive early, but it’s worth it.  I ended up selling a lot of LPD’s things and took the cash to purchase LPD’s Easter dress and shoes.

Hope you enjoy the first day of Spring and Happy Spring Cleaning!!

  1. We’re kicking off the first day of spring by planting carrots later today. I’ve tried being a green thumb and it doesn’t always work, but for the sake of my two-year-old, I’m willing to try again!

    • Hi Sleeping Mom. I always wished I had a green thumb. I have also tried to garden and I eventually kill everything. You’ll have to let me know how the carrots are coming along. Since today is Wednesday, I may go to our local farmers market and pick up a planter with lettuce and see if I can keep that alive. Hope you hav a great day!

  2. Joy is being able to see my children grow into amazing, genorous, kind, compassionate,
intelligent people and I am honored to know them.

    • I agree, watching a child grow is amazing and makes you appreciate the little things. Thank you so much for sharing Anara. Your children are lucky to have a mother like you. You’re setting them up for success.

Wow thank you for your tips now I know where to take my magazines, REAL SIMPLE IS MY FAVORITE! I’m going to try very hard to recycle them, but I don’t know if I’m going to be able to. I don’t like clutter either,I am an organizer but with my REAL SIMPLE magazine I make an exception. In order to keep them , I line them up on the bottom of my glass table in the living room. Another tip for my extra books I put them on the corner of my bedroom by size (the large one on the bottom then med then sm). I also use my magazines as a table and I put my lamps on top. What do you think?

    • lol! I too love Real Simple magazine, but I’m certainly not as creative as you. I would love to see a picture of what you do with them as side tables. If you have a chance send me an email with a picture and I’ll post it with your permission. Hope you have a great day.
