The Laundress Delicate Wash Soap-Is it a scam?

laundress2Dry cleaning is one of my least favorite things to pay for, not only do I know it’s bad for my clothing and the environment; it’s so darn expensive. Being that I work in a corporate environment I have a lot of clothing that is dry clean only. So after reading an article from Big Green Purse , I knew I had to find a dry cleaning alternative and ordered  The Laundress Delicate Wash soap.

The company set out to eliminate the need for expensive dry cleaning with toxic chemicals and the two Fiber Science, Textile & Apparel Cornell educated women created The Laundress.

I ordered it four months ago and have been very hesitant to try it. I really don’t have an excuse, except that since it’s been so hot, I’ve tried to only wear cotton.

The Laundress Delicate Wash trial

After wearing my favorite silk blouse this week, I decided to give it a try. However, before dunking my favorite J Crew silk blouse into unknown waters,  I visited The Laundress site for further instruction. I was shocked to see a demo where a couture dressed was immersed  in The Laundress & water, but when the dress  dried, it was beautiful. However, like most of you, I don’t believe it until I’ve tried it.

I used 2 capfuls with cold water on account of  hand washing. As the instructions stated I did not let the silk blouse sit longer than thirty minutes. In fact, I set the timer for 20 minutes and I was sure my blouse had been ruined; I even starting sourcing eBay for another one.

The result of using the Laundress on delicates

Finally, Is the Laundress Delicate wash soap a scam, absolutely not;  I was impressed! The blouse came out soft, silky and smelled great. I’m very sensitive to smell and it was just the right scent. I have since used The Laundress for two dry clean only blazers and dresses.

Pros: non-toxic, biodegradable, allergen free, made in the U.S.A. and the bottle is made from 50% post-consumer recycled plastic. You can visit the site for further detailed instructions and video, the smell is great and they even have directions in French and Spanish. You can use the product in the wash but it will require more soap.

Con’s: It’s expensive, 16oz. for $19.00 minus shipping and handling.

I would order the product again for my delicates since it’s much cheaper than dry cleaning and better for the environment.
